Ayanna Pressley Breaks Ranks With the “Squad” to Endorse Elizabeth Warren

Early on in their political careers, the four left-wing freshman congresswomen who gave themselves the nickname “The Squad” have been very much in line with each other’s political views.

This changed Wednesday when one member, Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), threw her political endorsement for the 2020 Democratic presidential primary behind frontrunner Elizabeth Warren. This contradicts the other 3 “Squad” members who all have endorsed the even more socialist candidate, Bernie Sanders.

This is one of the first signs of cracks in the “Squad’s” tightknit group. Many political observers view this as a way for Pressley, who is much more of a political insider than the rest of the fringe left-wing collection of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), wanting to distance herself from the group.

It would seem this is an attempt to paint herself as a politician, who in 2016 campaigned for Hillary Clinton, as a more moderate centrist as opposed to the radically liberal “Squad”.

There is also speculation that Pressley is doing this to establish her own name better for a future run for Warren’s Senate seat if elected. So far, she is the least well known of the “Squad”.

The media darling AOC, personally and politically controversial Omar, and foul-mouthed Tlaib have all done things that were much more newsworthy in their time in the office than Pressley.
